Base on olfactory-visual synesthesia, odor expresses itself in art.







Statement


It is a series of animated image that comine with VR technology invite people to experience how different senses work together.


In this era, people spend so much time staring at cell phones, so that the vision, hearing and touch sensory are gaining greater hold over our daily lives at the expense of smell, taste. There are some low estimate of smell


With odor: we can get the perceptual elements which helps to separate out the conceptual and perceptual elements of the stimulus. I hope that through my design, people can stop and perceive and maybe dream for a second or have a brief moment outside the busy city. Base on olfactory-visual synesthesia, sum up how smells manifest in the visual way. Combine three organs: brain, nose and tongue with free figure plants to create highly abstract models that are not exists in real life. Meanwhile, according to the connection between odor and memory, guide audience to imagine scents in the scene or their memories.

In this project, the image stimulates the visual (color, shape) and hearing senses as catalyst to evoke more thinking about smell. Scent is different for everyone, because it relates to different memories. Audiences perceive the special scents in consciousness that only belong to individual. These images offer an intimate and subjective experience, with each visitor free to interpret the odors. Besides, the experience gives us more insights into how olfactory links with other senses. Multi-sensory contributes to normal people as well, at that time, audience as a synesthete: when wandering, I see my odor.
